In order to safe guard the interests of the international student, the code of pastoral Care is enforced by the New Zealand Government thus ensuring that you are well taken care of during your stay in the country. It is a code accounting for the service delivery to the international students. The code ensures that all processes involving the international student are done so ethically and responsibly, that student receives comprehensive, accurate and up to date information before enrolling in the institution. The code is applicable to all education providers enrolling international students. You cannot apply for a student visa to an institution that is not code approved.

Application Process

The application process and the turnaround times will vary from one institution to the other.  The Universities and ITP’S (institute of technology and polytechnics) have an average turnaround time for an offer letter that is anything between 6-10 weeks. The private institutions will have a faster turnaround time. Hence it is advised to apply early.

The documents required for the admissions and for the assessment are- mark sheets and passing certificates of previous studies, work experience letters (if applicable), reference letters, IELTS/TOEFL/PTE score card to assess English proficiency, ID pages of passport. Additional documents (Statement of purpose and CV) can be asked by the counselor if required depending on the course you have selected.

Deadlines & Intakes: New Zealand generally has two intakes in a year i.e. February/March and July/ August. However some courses have multiple intakes in a year.

What its like to be studying and living in New Zealand?

Multiple accommodation options are available to students that include on campus stay, home stay with a local family or off campus accommodation in a rented flat usually shared by friends or acquaintances. Halls of Residence are generally located a short walk from campus where the rooms are single or twin-share, with communal laundry, lounge room and dining hall. Meals are usually provided, and all dietary needs can be catered for.  Rental accommodation is generally clustered around colleges and universities, but flats can be found in most city suburbs.

Like any other country including India, the cost of living in metro cities is higher as compared to the regional areas of New Zealand. For example the cost of living in Auckland will be higher than that in Hamilton. The average costs of living in New Zealand would range between NZD 15000- NZD 20000.
